Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Balloons and beach balls

I once went directly from my Grandfather's funeral to show at the spectrum in Phlly. From one dead show to the next I joked. On the way up there we watched the car in front of us hit a dear on the parkway and leave a baby dear orphaned. Those were great times in themselves, but I really wanted to know if anyone at the Meadowlands show, where they did Baba o'reily, in 96 or so ever got a balloon or beach ball with strange scribbling or messages written on it. I was tripping my balls off and laughing my ass off (almost pissed myself). Everytime one came around I grabbed it, got out the sharpie and wrote something ridicules on it and freed it to the crowd. Since it is an open stadium and it was still light out, I was able to watch people reading strange distturbing things with puzzled looks on their faces. My "deadhead" friends (except for one- you know who you are!) all failed to see the humor in this. I enjoyed quite a few shows in my time but did anyone notice the lack of senses of humor? Of all places to think "stuffy" would not apply. Any thoughts on this? Anyone ever get a balloon of mine? Am I wrong in thinking things were being taken too serious at a time when seriousness was not on any menu that I could translate or comprehend? Maybe I just trip harder... who knows...

By 1996 I just wasn't "getting it" anymore. I don't know if it was something I was going through or if those around me had changed, but, every show I went to I felt strangely isolated. It was almost as if I was the only person there. Most of the time this sense of aloneness was so strong that I couldn't even hear the music. So if I had caught one of those balls I most certainly would have wondered where it came from.

Ok so I don't keep the date Jerry or my grandfather died on the calendar but I know it was after 92 and before 97... those dates had little distinguishing features to me. In answer to the only person that responded to the question, it was usually a severly deformed penis or someone's phone number I did not like and open invitation for deviant sex. Sometimes I wrote, "I'm watching you" or "don't read this"... "satan loves you" shit you think up when tripping in between sets. I am surprized no one guessed what show it was... Meadowlands... daytime... during sunset space went into baba o'reilly factor. The spin of the sound around the arena did not stop there... they were doing some quadraphonic shit that made the sound rotate around the place, or at least it smelt that way from what I could taste... get me? Oh and the joke about 96 HAHAHAHA I just pissed myself from laughing... almost as funny as the funeral I was at... I handed my uncle a dollar because he was holding the door after his dad just died... what a riot! Then he died a few months later... classic... HAHAHAHA sick bastards... oh wait a minute that was two different shows... and it might have been JFK... who cares...

if you are a true deadhead - i'll eat my cast - blow off man - you make me sick

(btw - if that jpg is you - you look like a little pussy)

Is this guy for real? Yeah, I was looking for his music or videos or anything and all I found was a bunch of reviews of things that everyone already knows about. I know there are some cool people in this forum who were helpful in our search for ambient recordings of deadshow parking lots and I too would not paint myself into a box of anyone style, let alone one band but the words I expect to hear from a peace and fun loving dead fan and the vitriotic hate that spews from this spectator's post are outrageous. You, direwolf are just a spectator... someone in the crowd... I hope you realize how fucked up it is to make light of the death of a loved one and to be such a hypocrit... disturbing man, you are the one who needs help. I am sorry to the others in the GD forum that did offer suggestions on our quest for sounds and that do have a sense of humor. I knew some cool dead heads but I also knew some walking contradictions who preached peace and love and would rip you off to buy heroin... I guess assholes will be assholes no matter what music they listen to. It's amazing how much balls people have online... hence my buddies namesake.. telephone toughguy... everyone's a bad ass on the internet and over the phone... it's sad... again to the good folks, I am sorry I had to blast this joker but he was way out of line and I hope we are not the only ones who see it...

Ha ha ha.. must have taken you a while to think that one up. Ever since they clamped down on the cold medicine it must be harder for you to make meth in your trailer. If you read the post, or had your mom read it to you while doing you with a strapon, he was saying the whole period was a blur and some people do deal with death and mourning with humor. For instance, how funny it would be watching them lower you into your stink hole. And how funny it would be coming back and digging you up and doing the nasty in your mouth. Peace? yeah... like you know anything about peace... As far as nose, I have hundreds of songs on here, retard so like every other moot point of yours... DENIED. Give up... I have a a job and can't do this all night...

as far as the death thing - i thought your moron friend handed someone a dollar bill while holding the door at a funeral - pathetic and worth a punch upside the head (which i would be more than happy to oblige)

Not in my family asshole... you don't know me. You can't assume anything about what is and what is not acceptable in other people's cultures and environments. That is how I dealt with death. And you talk a lot of shit behind the computer about smacking people, something I won't put in writing or stoop to because I don't threaten shit I am not ready to do. If you want to threaten me, I'll give you my address and buy you a plane ticket... and if I picked up trash you'd be in the back of the truck loser. I bet you I make more money than you and I have emptied trash cans and scrubbed toilets and built houses and sold houses and ran companies so I am not ashamed of my work ethic. Keep it up and I'll hide your daddy's food stamps in his work boots and you'll starve to death trailer king.

And thanks to some of the good feedback from the other post (thanks!), we may have the raw footage we need to do the next project... you can make a million silly balloons at our own concert and no one will get mad at you!

You look like some retard from a bad 80's movie - i can't stop laughing. you look like a dude that with one punch you'd be running to your mommy or your boyfriend. damn dude, you look like such a pussy - i'm serious - too friggin funny.

I always found Deadheads to be incredibly funny and willing to take a joke as far as they could - unless of course they were doing some of the more unsavory cocktails then they were just jerks. Leave them then go have some fun.

TT - Maybe the stuff you wrote wasn't so funny. I mean after all, it was 1996 and everything. I found that year to be rough at shows - the music was just so , I don't know, different.
